Daniel Brackett

Dan comes to PickUp Patrol with an extensive background in software development. In addition to being the CTO of PickUp Patrol, he has spent the past 8 years as the Co-Founder and CTO of Extreme Reach, a marketing platform for video advertising across TV, digital, and mobile. Prior to this, he spent 3 years as the Director of Development at PC Connection and 7 years as the VP of Software Development at FastChannel Network (a precursor company to Extreme Reach in the same market space.) All of these jobs have prepared him to play a leadership role in the creation, growth, and development of new companies, as well as given him a strong background in team leadership, agile product development, and cloud computing technologies.

At PickUp Patrol, Dan is responsible for the cloud-based architecture and development of the PickUp Patrol technology platform. He works closely with Eric, the Chief Architect, to develop the product features and solution delivery for customers. His favorite thing about working with PickUp Patrol is to see what amazing things the student founders are capable of doing, saying, "It has been an honor to work with and mentor such a gifted group of young people."

In his free time, Dan enjoys traveling, walking, fishing, hiking, and spending time with his family. He finds it ironic that even though he has a master's degree in forestry, he has never worked as a forester. He was the lead guitarist for a rock band in Florida in the late eighties, and according to his FitBit, Dan has walked 4,152 miles since June of 2012.

Eric Edvalson

In addition to his duties at PickUp Patrol, Eric works with the Boston Red Sox IT department. Prior to that, he spent 16 years as a senior software engineer at Skillsoft, where he designed and developed dozens of highly scalable and mission critical enterprise applications.

At PickUp Patrol, Eric is in charge of the system architecture and the functional and technical design of the product. He works with the customers and the PickUp Patrol team to define the requirements for the features, and oversees the technical support for customers. He also mentors the student founders, and enjoys watching them learn and grow in their various roles.

He loves that the PickUp Patrol application solves a real problem, saying, "I get excited knowing that our product really makes a difference for the schools and for the parents who use it." He also enjoys the positive culture that makes PickUp Patrol tick. "There are no egos. Everybody just wants to contribute and make things happen. We work hard and have fun at the same time!"

Eric loves to mountain bike, spend time with his friends and family, and explore and learn new technologies. He is married to PickUp Patrol COO Maria Edvalson, and has three children, including his son, Anthony, who is also a founding member of the company. Before his software career, Eric enjoyed a successful stint as a professional percussionist and teacher and recorded the music for numerous movie film scores, commercials, and soundtracks including Army of Darkness, Judge Dredd, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and Xena: Warrior Princess, to name just a few.

Maria Edvalson

Maria's background is in education and event planning. She was a middle school and high school band director for 6 years where she created successful music programs and engaged students in a high quality learning experience. As Director of Entertainment & Special Events at Snowbird Ski Resort, Utah, Maria implemented 300+ events each year including Oktoberfest (which brought in upwards of 35,000 attendees annually), a wide variety of concert series and sporting events, musical theater, wine festivals, charity events, nature programs, and more. Each of these jobs required a high level of project management, a keen attention to detail, and extensive communication skills, qualities that currently serve her well at PickUp Patrol.

Maria's role at PickUp Patrol is many and varied. As COO, she oversees the company’s operations, finances, and growth. She uses her project management skills to keep the company focused on current goals whether they be developing school solutions, improving business processes or seeking new ways to ease communications between schools and parents. She most enjoys meeting and helping the school secretaries who use PickUp Patrol, but the flexible work hours, and the ability to work with friends and family are definite perks. Most of all, she loves following an idea and turning it into a real working solution.

Maria is married to Chief Architect, Eric Edvalson, and has three children. Their son, Anthony, is a founding member of PickUp Patrol as well. She enjoys picking up and refinishing free roadside furniture, and is currently into juicing fruits and vegetables, saying, "I love throwing things in and seeing what comes out. It's not always pleasant, but it's interesting nonetheless." Also of note, as a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, she was crowned the 1985 French Horn Bugler World Champion.
